Until two weeks ago I knew/heard nothing by Mastodon.  I read an article in Rolling Stone, spoke with a friend of mine and found this album at Target for under $10.  On a whim, I picked it up and spent one whole Saturday listening to it.  I may listen to plenty of jazz and alt-rock, but I am a metal-head at heart, and this album awakened the sleeping beast. Album Review

picKate Voegele has come a long way since her debut in 2007. When she first came out she sounded too much like Michelle Branch. She did not made a real mark. Now here comes her second album, A Fine Mess, which really stands out. The two years that passed since her first outing has made her more mature as a musician and songwriter. Probably we can give some credit to Mike Elizondo ( the one who produced the works of Fiona Apple and Maroon 5) for the very good production that made A Fine Mess a real fine pop-rock album....

picThough The Vaselines were already a band a few good years before Kurt Cobain and company exploded into the scene,  I only got to know about them through Nirvana. Kurt Cobain loved The Vaselines so much that he once said (and probably still would be saying it if he were still alive) that they were the best pop band in the world, and Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee are his "most favorite songwriters in the whole world". Concert Review

Once in a while it pays to be on an email club newsletter.  I’ve been getting coupons from Newbury Comics for years, and a month ago I saw a promotion for a free acoustic and signing with the band Travis.  The best way to describe Travis is a cheaper Coldplay.  They could be huge but are happy with the modest following they have.  On tour for promoting their latest album, Ode to J.
