Weezer, Pinkerton, 1996/2010

by J Frazzetta November 30th, 2010 | Album Review
Weezer is embarking on a small tour where they will be playing two nights in a few select cities across the country.  Night one will be dedicated to The Blue Album and night two will be dedicated to Pinkerton.  I’m going to Pinkerton since this is a one-time chance to see one of my favorite albums performed live.  There are many bands running with this trend, and even though I’m on the fence about the idea of devoting a night to an album, I think Pinkerton deserves a full night.

Radio Has an Off-Switch

by Jason Lightner November 25th, 2010 | Music Opinions
I've got something I've been meaning to get off my chest ever since I started writing for this website. Listening? Reading? Okay, here goes...

It's getting a bit tiresome hearing the hipsters and indie folks remark about mainstream music like it's all bad. At my 9-to-5, I'll put on Metallica and inevitably some joker will remark something like "Man, did I walk in on a 98 Rock jam-a-thon?" I get it. The radio overplays certain bands' music because the record labels give them money to do so. It sucks, and that's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

What I don't get

They played what?!

by J Frazzetta November 23rd, 2010 | Music Opinions, Music Website
A while back I wrote about how I hate sifting through stupid fansites for bands when I want to know what they played at a show I could not attend.  Since most of these sites are run by girls that chew far too much bubblegum or guys that have no better way to use their time, you can never just get the information you’re looking for without spending an hour clicking links.  If the forum topic is ‘Post Setlists Here: No discussion’ and people spend 5 pages posting about the show, please get better admins.

The Voice of Frank Sinatra

by Jason Lightner November 18th, 2010 | Album Review
Frank Sintatra is one of those iconic musicians whose music is always revered, whose music is always imitated, whose music is just... timeless. Yet he's a musician I've never had the chance to actually check out.

That's a lie. I've had plenty of chances, but pidgeon-holing myself into a set of genres hasn't allowed me to really reach out and see what the man is all about. This is why I'm grateful for services like Pandora that have given me the opportunity to check out some good music that I couldn't have imagined was out there.

It's the

The Gracious Few, Pearl St Downstairs, Northampton, MA, 11/5/10

by J Frazzetta November 16th, 2010 | Concert Review
I could smell Kevin Martin’s cologne.  I’m not sure what it was; but I got a nose full.  His left forearm had Jasper tattooed on it and he wore Ray Bans for most of the night.  How do I know?  We stood right in front of him the whole time and when I say "in front," I mean I almost got slapped in the face by Chad Taylor’s guitar.

Having never been to Pearl St, I didn’t know what to expect.  The venue is a basement, the stage wasn’t higher than my kneecap, the bar was made of plywood; all
