Sometimes you have to break out of your comfort box and sometimes you need to smash that box with a baseball bat. You may have noticed that as of late I have been listening to some albums that are not my usual brand of tune-age. This is nothing new for me, and I often enjoy the challenge of listening outside my own box, just don’t get used to it, Avid Reader. If you happen to recall the album I wrote about by the brothers Wolff ,then Ryan Calhoun could be their long lost older brother. Allow me
SPIN Cycle

Earlier this month SPIN Magazine announced that it had plans to revolutionize the world of music criticism. Read up a bit before we dive too deep so we are all on the same page.
To summarize: SPIN wants to remove the 80-word mini reviews from the publication and convert those all to Tweets, and using a staff of 12 writers they hope to plow through 1500 albums this year; ambitious. What is the reasoning for the shift in medium? The new editor, Christopher Weingarten, seems to think that no one reads these mini reviews and they are better served

by Jason Lightner January 24th, 2012 | Music Opinions
It's a sad week for this Baltimore Ravens fan, but hey, I've still got my Natty Boh and Old Bay to keep me happy. The New England Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens to gain entry to the Super Bowl. Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff will eventually become a transgendered police chief and will attempt to murder an eccentric pet detective, but for some reason, people are hung up over Steven Tyler's performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner" (video). American Idol has wrapped up its 10th season. Tenth! I can't believe I started watching that show a decade ago. (No comment on how consistently I've watched it since then.) Some of the past American Idol Winners have gone on to claim much fame. Perhaps the best example is Kelly Clarkson, the winner of the very first season of American Idol. Meanwhile, other names fade away as the years pass. Kris Allen may or may not ring a bell, even though he was the winner of the somewhat more recent Season 8. Where are they now? Let's take a look
