American Idols: Where Are They Now?
American Idol has wrapped up its 10th season. Tenth! I can't believe I started watching that show a decade ago. (No comment on how consistently I've watched it since then.) Some of the past American Idol Winners have gone on to claim much fame. Perhaps the best example is Kelly Clarkson, the winner of the very first season of American Idol. Meanwhile, other names fade away as the years pass. Kris Allen may or may not ring a bell, even though he was the winner of the somewhat more recent Season 8. Where are they now? Let's take a look
Album Review: Up!
Has anyone else noticed that we haven't heard much from Shania Twain in recent years? The Canadian country pop singer's 1995 album, The Woman In Me, brought her to our attention. Then, in 1997, listeners across the world were captivated by Come On Over, which is currently the best-selling album by a female artist, of all time in any genre. Just to what genre does Twain belong? Her original label was strictly Country, but this sparked some controversy with "pure" country listeners, who did not agree. Perhaps this led to the multiple versions of her fourth studio album, Up!,
The One
Happy 2012 kids! Did you make a resolution? I did, time will tell if I hold to it or not.
I’ve been reviewing last year’s posts and noticed a theme throughout several of them: I mention the musician Beck quite a lot. To be honest, I referenced him five times. Then I started thinking to myself, as I often do, Avid Reader; why did I mention him so often? The answer is pretty simple: he’s my favorite artist of all time and has held on longer than others who have had this prized position. He’s the reason I dig for export

Diana Krall
Diana Krall is a talented jazz pianist and singer, known for her low, honeyed vocals. She is one of my idols. I'm surprised I haven't mentioned her yet.
Krall began playing piano at the age of 4. By the age of 15, she was playing jazz piano in a local restaurant. She attributes most of her music education to her father, who was both a piano player and record collector. She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston on a scholarship, before heading out to Los Angeles, Toronto, and finally New York, in 1990, to play jazz
