Tool, TD Garden, 1/28/2012
"Even at 50; he still breaks drumheads" said Tool’s vocalist Maynard James Keenan in reference to Danny Carey’s intense style of play after their first song. This was my fourth Tool show since 2001 and I find it amazing that the four members of the band are between 45-50 years old and manage to play as hard as they do. Consistency, the fact they don’t tour as often as many other bands do and haven’t put out new material since 2006 is what brings me back. This tour was announced a little over a month ago and many of
Review: 11/20/11 Flecktones Concert
Last Sunday night, the NH Capitol Center for the Arts was filled to brim with an audience anxious for the band to take the stage. The 5-minute delay was probably intentional to build up anticipation. Finally, the main lights dimmed down and in came a sweet bass line. The spotlight revealed the only player it could possibly be, Victor Wooten. One by one the spotlight fell on each member of the group: Wooten, Future Man, Howard Levy, and last but certainly not least, Béla Fleck, leader of the Flecktones.

Dave Grohl: drummer, guitarist, band leader, father and auctioneer. Early in the set last Wednesday, Dave greeted the sold-out Boston crowd by auctioning off the length of their headlining set. “Do I hear two hours, two hours 15 minutes, two hours 30 minutes, two hours and45; how about three hours?” Anyone that has been following the band on this recent tour might know the guys have been knocking out near three-hour nights every time they play, and this was no exception.

Mercies @ Baltimore Free Farm, 2011.11.18
Another weekend, another local show. This time there's a twist – hippies!
The Baltimore Free Farm is a local nonprofit that is dedicated to community-building, recycling, ethical food, and patchouli. They also happen to run rock shows every now and then. On this day, I was there to see Neutron Bomb, Mercies, Ahab's Revenge, and rioLinda. I've written about a few of these guys before, so I can probably spare you a few of the details. Here we go...
I strolled into the place, not quite knowing what to expect. It's located in the hipster capitol

The Pixies, Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, 10/30/11
By this point in the weekend, I didn’t have power for a day and any excuse to be someplace warm was a welcome suggestion. Good thing I had tickets to a show that weekend to break up the monotony. In support of their classic album Doolittle, the Pixies have been touring for the past two years playing the album in its entirety with B-Sides and other favorites.
Starting everything off with the original surrealist film Luis Bunuel’s 1929 Un Chien Andalou, the band took the stage and started with a few B-Sides to set the tone. After everyone
