Drugs and drinking aside, when Scott Weiland is on, he is on fire. When I had seen Stone Temple Pilots in Manchester a few summers ago, Weiland was subdued and went through the tracks with ease. Last Tuesday he attacked the microphone while the rest of the band broke out.
Venue played a huge role here: arenas are nice for some big sound and big hits; however, if you want to get people charged up you should consider playing a club that holds 2,200 fans, playing some hits and album cuts to appease everyone. Sticking to a close set

Soundgarden, Comcast Center, 7/10/11
For perspective, please read last week’s post.
It was the morning of June 30th, a normal Thursday, and while listening to my favorite radio station WFNX there was a game they were playing. Call in and answer the best of five random questions, beat the intern and win a pair of tickets to see Soundgarden. Using my Bluetooth I called in, made it on air and due to my ability to name two other members of N’Sync that weren’t Justin Timberlake, managed to score a set of tickets to see Soundgarden again. Strange luck indeed, avid reader.

Soundgarden, Mohegan Sun Arena, 7/6/11
As the lights faded Wednesday night I grew worried: since 1996 I’ve been following Soundgarden on record, in magazines and video clips. In minutes some of my biggest musical idols would take the stage and I was nervous that my idealized vision of the band would be destroyed by a half-hearted reunion performance. After a minute or two of opener "Searching with My Good Eye Closed", my fears melted away and I realized that I was not ready for the aural assault that was to be brought upon me.
I’ve read plenty about the band; how they tune their guitars

Two Historic Debuts at Carnegie Hall
Itzhak Perlman, 1963 and Paco Montalvo, 2011
This past Easter (April 24, 2011), I saw 18-year-old Paco Montalvo perform Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major in Carnegie Hall. And I decided to try my hand at writing a review of one of the most exciting musical performances I have witnessed in my life.
I played violin for nine years, starting in fifth grade for music class and eventually joining a local youth orchestra when I was in high school. My non-rigorous musical education, coupled with a childhood spent listening to classical music in the car and at home with

NKOTBSB, 1st Mariner Arena, 5/29/11
I was given tickets to attend the NKOTBSB show by a friend. I didn't ask for them; that would be weird. But being as it was a Sunday night and I had nothing to do, I figured I'd sacrifice an evening of getting drunk and watching the ceiling fan just this once to take the girlfriend to the show. You would think that after my diatribe last week, though, seeing two boy bands would be the last thing on my agenda, but you'd be wrong. I'm a glutton for punishment.
We arrived to the show late, but it
