Hey, I put this show together – I can review it if I want.
So yeah, full disclaimer I suppose. I'm in a cover band called Liquifaction. Up until now, I refrained from mentioning the actual band name because I felt that was a bit tacky. Like most traditions, however, this one's going to have at least a momentary lapse because I've got to talk about this show.
So my band was supposed to play a gig at this place in Canton on the 13th of April. We were booked roughly a month in advance and we were on track to

Mercies Self-Titled EP: A Sweet Lullaby

Seeing as Mercies are currently promoting their newly released EP titled This is Not About Control, but I was unable to make it to the DC release party -- while we wait for the online release, I thought it would be appropriate to check out their previous offering released just last year. The self-titled EP with the wacky art on the cover has been keeping me company for the better part of the previous two weeks. It's just damn good.

Avid Reader, I give you Moonlight Bride.

Is It Safer by the Shore?

A while back you might recall that I reviewed a band called Mugshot who have made a name for themselves in New Hampshire as being a great cover band on any given night. While Mugshot is still plugging away each weekend, their vocalist/guitarist Brien Sweet is also making tunes under the name Safer by the Shore. True, playing covers can be a lot of fun and gives you some flexibility to stretch out and show off a bit -- but creating your own material has rewards as well.

You’re a (Not So) Mean One

There are countless odes to Santa, Rudolph, grandma, shoes, even donkeys, when it comes to songs for the season. If it will bring a tear to someone’s eye or a laugh into your throat, chances are it has been sung about in some capacity. Except for one fellow, and when his name comes up, depending on your age, some folks think of Boris Karloff while others envision Jim Carrey. That’s right. I’m talking about that fellow whose head wasn’t screwed on quite right, his shoes might have been too tight but it turned out his heart was two sizes too small --
