Bon Iver, Battles, Matt Stevens

Contrary to what the title implies, there will not be a live throwdown going on here, which is a shame as I would pay to see that happen.  No, here are a few album reviews coming at you since I’ve let things bunch up on my desk for too long.

Three Reviews:

Bon Iver, S/T, 2011 – Every artist is allowed a creative turn from time to time, unless you're David Bowie; then you can take as many as you’d like.  Rather than stay on pace with the same algorithm that produced his haunting debut For Emma Forever

Cults

It is my pleasure to review my latest music obsession, Cults. Their debut album of the same name has been received with overwhelmingly favorable reviews, and a listen will fully explain their abnormally rapid rise to fame. The first song on the album, “Go Outside” appeared on the Internet last year, and has sent the band right to the top. The song is  catchy, hip, and most importantly, lighthearted and easy to dance to. Going along with the theme, the entire song is surreal and airy. Also, be sure to check out the music video. New Release: Tristan Clopet (Name It What You Want)

Nothing screams summer louder than Florida beaches; to be more specific, I should say Miami beaches.  I know Will Smith had his vision of Miami and I have mine, so let’s keep it that way.  Rather than send yours truly on assignment to the Sunshine State, a piece of it came to visit me from our friend Tristan Clopet.  You may remember him from his Purple EP; well, he’s back with a fresh album that does well for driving around in the sun.

I recall saying that Tristan was a mix of Jeff Buckley’s vocals and Red Hot Chili

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi, Rome

If you have never watched any of the infamous "Spaghetti Westerns" i.e. A Fist Full of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, you will need to go watch them before continuing this post.  Don’t worry,  I’ll wait here.

All right, now that we’re all on the same page, were you listening to the music?  Yeah I know Clint Eastwood was young once, but did you hear the background noise?  Well, the scores for those films were composed by Ennio Morricone and his body of work is amazing.  What we have here
