Pearl Jam Twenty Made Me a Happy Insomniac

October 26th, 2011 by Jason Lightner | Music Opinions, Rock
You ever have one of those nights where you're attempting to fall asleep, so you put on some public access channel that you're certain will be boring enough to get you to doze off and then you realize that what you're watching is something so awesome that you can't even fathom changing the channel to get the rest you so desperately need? I had one of those nights a short while ago.

I nestled in my bed, resting comfortably, and changed the channel to WETA, a Washington DC public access station. As luck would have it, an excellent documentary called

rioLinda @ Sidebar Tavern,Baltimore, MD 2011.09.16

On a cool Friday night, I was invited out to a rock show at one of the more dive-iest bars I've ever been to – The Sidebar Tavern on Lexington St. in Baltimore plays host to some awesome local acts. On this night, a friend of a friend's band was playing, so I decided to come out. The band in question is a simple two-piece outfit called rioLinda. They were there among a few other acts, such as the Mercies and Neutron Bomb (who I unfortunately didn't get to see – I had to give

NKOTBSB, 1st Mariner Arena, 5/29/11

I was given tickets to attend the NKOTBSB show by a friend. I didn't ask for them; that would be weird. But being as it was a Sunday night and I had nothing to do, I figured I'd sacrifice an evening of getting drunk and watching the ceiling fan just this once to take the girlfriend to the show. You would think that after my diatribe last week, though, seeing two boy bands would be the last thing on my agenda, but you'd be wrong. I'm a glutton for punishment.

We arrived to the show late, but it

Explosions in the Sky: Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

The last time I was in Newbury Comics to pick up a new release I gave myself a challenge: pick a new release by a band you didn’t know anything about.  I used some simple criteria: name, promo stickers and clerk recommendation.  With a band name like Explosions in the Sky, a sticker that had reviews from Filter and Mojo, then a clerk mentioning it was a solid album from an instrumental rock band; it fit my criteria.

Explosions are a four piece from Texas and have been together since 1999.  Unlike Mogwai or Tortoise, Explosions seem to stay
