With a new smartphone released every month and each one claiming to have better features, functionality and usability than the others, choosing a new handset can be a confusing business. Here’s our pick of the top mobile phones of 2012 to help you in your search.
Huawei Ascend G300: Not the most obvious choice to top the list of best smartphones, but the Ascend wins its spurs by combining two important features – great usability, and value for money. Available for under £100, the handset is stunning to look at and makes everything from watching movies to browsing the web easy, straightforward and pleasant. The budget price also makes it the perfect option if you’re considering switching to a pay as you go company such as giffgaff, which offers SIM card deals to customers who already have their own mobile.
Sony Xperia S: Since parting company with Ericsson, Sony Mobile has continued to go from strength to strength. This attractive design is the best of their new models – with a big high-res screen, a 12 megapixel camera and multimedia functionality, it’s as good to use as it is to look at.
BlackBerry Bold 9900: A great choice for the business-minded, RIM’s new phone is a real step up from its previous models. Combining the renowned Blackberry keyboard with an excellent touch screen, the Bold 9900 is highly user-friendly. With Near Field Communications technology built in and a futuristic brushed stainless steel frame, this is one phone that won’t go out of date in a hurry.
Nokia Lumia 800: The much-anticipated result of collaboration between Microsoft and Nokia, the Lumia 800 is immediately eye-catching, thanks to the range of funky bright colours. Features include a 3.7 inch ClearBlack curved display, a fantastic Carl Zeiss camera and a user-friendly Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus: Last but by no means least, the Galaxy Nexus wins through with its huge screen, 1280×720 resolution and Android 4.0 operating system. Bear in mind, though, that this is by no means a comprehensive list of 2012’s best mobile offerings – check out a review site such as Expert Reviews for more of the most innovative handsets.
