Paramore, Meadowbrook Farm, Gilford NH, 8/3/10
Watching Hayley Williams jump on stage the other night brought to mind Gwen Stefani, Henry Rollins and… Loretta Lynn? Paramore might be known for crafting catchy pop-punk anthems, but these Nashville natives still pay homage to their home soil. Rolling into town on the Honda Civic Tour, promoting green ideas, the band proved they could hold their own on stage.
There I was, amidst a sea of 12-19 year-olds and still wearing my button up shirt from work. Wading through the masses we took our seats and watched the show unfold. Swedish band Kadawatha started at 6:30 playing pop rock which was followed by New Found Glory at 7:15 bringing their brand of pop punk. At 8:15 Canadian sisters Tegan and Sara gave an excellent performance of smart folk rock and witty banter.
Lights out at 9:30 as Paramore kicked it in gear opening with ‘Ignorance’ and mixed crowd favorites with material off their new album. Jumping all over the stage, Williams could sing and rev the crowd with ease. After eight songs, she and guitarist Josh Farro, donning an acoustic, performed a solid cover of “You Ain’t Woman Enough” commenting that playing country songs reminded them of home while on the road. They rejoined the group to play a few more acoustic tunes while sitting on a couch and closed the show at their normal tempo.
Storming the stage after a short encore break they ended the night with “Brick By Boring Brick” and their break-out hit “Misery Business”. A good night was had by all, despite your age, and proved that some girls don’t need choreography to sing a song.
