Album Review

shaka rockThe Australian rock band JET is set to release their third studio album, Shaka Rock. This album was recorded in the USA and in Australia and was co-produced by the band with with Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith. The album looks like it has some very good promise. The first single, “She’s a Genius,” became the number 1 most added rock song in Australia in the first week of its release. It is also the number 1 most added rock song in Canada. In the USA, it also is making good progress in the charts.

JET has sold 4 million albums worldwide. Their first two albums, Get Born (2003) and Shine On (2006) were quite far apart in many aspects. Get Born was kind of rough and raw and very free, whereas Shine On was somewhat more refined and cultured. Now, Shaka Rock promises to bridge the gap between the first two albums.

“I can say that the band is thrilled with Shaka Rock in every conceivable way. We’ve had a don’t think twice attitude throughout the making of this record which continues as we get ready to release it. I think Shaka Rock is like when TV went colour. It’s our musical equivalent. There are moments on this record that are just pure, and moments that just rock harder than we ever have before,” Chris Cester said in an interview.

What makes JET quite different from the other rock bands of today is the band’s distinctive rock ‘n roll energy. Listening to JET is like listening to a 70s rock band, the only difference is that they sound like a modern version of it.

JET will be performing in North America to support their new album. Here is the track list of Shaka Rock (not necessarily in order) :

K.I.A. (Killed in Action)
Beat on Repeat
She’s a Genius
Black Hearts (On Fire)
Seventeen
La Di Da
Goodbye Hollywood
Walk
