I always knew the Internet would be good for something one of these days. Taking the advice of Rolling Stone, I paid www.Kingsofleon.com a visit –official site of Kings of Leon- and listened to their new single “Crawl”. Holy fuzz, Batman! This song has a great opening riff and when the vocals start up, strap yourself in. Those dapper boys from the South are really branching out musically and lyrically. I also checked out another track, “Sex on Fire”, which reminded me of previous tunes like “Arizona” or “Milk”. There is a real sense of genuine storytelling in every song these boys put out, and I’m glad the influences of touring with Pearl Jam and U2 have helped. Although, I do miss the grit of “Spiral Staircase”, these brothers and their cousin will have you crawling back for more.
Speaking of kings, let us move to the king of the jungle: the lion. One Day As A Lion, is the new side project
of Rage Against the Machine vocalist Zach de la Rocha and former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore. This duo charges up some hard beats and solid political raps to keep any Rage fan at bay. For myself, I came upon this EP after hearing the first single “Wild International” on the radio and thought that Rage was putting out a new album. No such luck, but this 5 song EP of material from 2006 is perfect filler until Rage Against the Machine hits your hometown. It is good to hear Zach on some fresh material, now I just wish Tom, Brad, Tim and Zach would come to Boston. I can dream, can’t I?
