Little Mix, DNA

by Louise May 31st, 2013 | Album Review
Little Mix is a British girl group that formed through X-Factor, a British television music competition. Its four members are Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall. All four auditioned as individuals for the show, but after not making it through individually, were offered the opportunity to form and continue as a group. They took part in the eighth season of the show and became not only the first girl group to make it to the final stages of the show, but also the first group to ever win the show. Whether or not this is a

The Neighbourhood, I Love You, 2013

by J Frazzetta May 30th, 2013 | Album Review
Maybe you’ve heard that song "Sweater Weather" drifting in and out of your radio in the last few weeks and maybe you haven’t, which is just fine, Avid Reader.  Let’s go on the premise that you’ve heard the single; what were your first impressions?  Did you say something like: man Maroon 5 sound like they have taken a lot of anti-depressants because this song is kind of lame and boring?  Well, that was my first reaction to the song when I heard it, then I was kind of shocked to find it wasn’t Maroon 5 at all.  Enter The

Fast-forward to 20 years after Daft Punk's inception, and the duo has released their fourth studio album. Released on May 17, 2013, Random Access Memories combines disco and funk music, with an electronic twist that creates a multitude of strong and fun rhythms.

Savages, Silence Yourself, 2013

by J Frazzetta May 24th, 2013 | Album Review
From time to time there is some buzz created about a debut album that sounds far too good to be true, so you do some reading.  Then you check out a few sites before the album is dropped and have to make a big choice, Avid Reader: should I give this a shot or just pass it by?  This is one album that I’m glad I gave $9 to.  An all girl quartet from London updating the post-punk sound is something that doesn’t come around very often.

Let’s say you took Joy Division, Wire, Bauhaus, added some estrogen and threw

Catch Up

by J Frazzetta May 23rd, 2013 | Album Review
A few weeks ago I mentioned that sometimes I have albums in a queue ready to review, or sometimes I have albums that are bought, then sit because they don’t excite me, and then I get an album that knocks everything else out of the way to be heard.  Well, this time, Avid Reader, I have four albums that fall into the second category.  All of them are pretty good, but they didn’t have the fire I was looking for.

Biffy Clyro Opposites – I just saw these guys open for Muse and wanted to give their new
