rioLinda/Ahab’s Revenge/Liquifaction:Surf City 4/27

Hey, I put this show together – I can review it if I want.

So yeah, full disclaimer I suppose. I'm in a cover band called Liquifaction. Up until now, I refrained from mentioning the actual band name because I felt that was a bit tacky. Like most traditions, however, this one's going to have at least a momentary lapse because I've got to talk about this show.

So my band was supposed to play a gig at this place in Canton on the 13th of April. We were booked roughly a month in advance and we were on track to

Old Indian @ Sidebar 2012.04.20

After missing them at the Baltimore Free Farm, I finally got a chance to check out Old Indian. Shows at the Sidebar are always fun because they usually involve multiple acts, and usually these are guys who you've never heard of, but will remember forever. On this night, the lineup consisted of Organs (Brooklyn), The Lexington Arrows (Baltimore), Thee Shut Downs (Philadelphia), Burning Itch (Knoxville), and of course, Old Indian (Frederick).

I had high hopes going into this show after being talked up by a friend of mine about the band. To be

Gamelan Galak Tika @ Kresge Auditorium (MIT) 4/13/12

April 20th, 2012 by Louise | Concert Review
Last week I posted an article on gamelan, not realizing that I would have the chance to view a  live performance of a Balinese gamelan less than one week later. To learn a bit of background information on gamelan, you can read the article here.

Gamelan Galak Tika, led by composer Evan Ziporyn, is a Balinese gamelan comprised of about 30 players drawn from the MIT community (including students and staff.) "Galak Tika" is Bahasa Kawi for "intense togetherness."

The concert opened up with "Panyembrama," which involved two dancers whose dance routines are based on the Gabor temple dance,

All Mighty Senators @ Golden West Cafe 2012.04.14

Another Saturday night, another glorious Baltimore rock show. I wasn't just in it for the rock & roll this time, however. Oh no. This night was all about rock & soul. You see, I'd traveled to The Avenue in Hampden to see one of my favorite bands, 4 Footer, do what they do best – rock your face off. Little did I know that I would be treated to one of the most unique and satisfying acts I've ever witnessed.

The All Mighty Senators are a five-piece rock and funk fusion group and have been kicking out the

The Joy Formidable, Paradise Rock Club, 3/30/12

April 4th, 2012 by J Frazzetta | Concert Review
Last Friday I may not have won half a billion dollars, but I felt like a million bucks as I watched The Joy Formidable take over the Paradise.  Due to my ability to fill out online surveys posted by my favorite radio station, I won a pair of tickets to the sold-out show.  I missed my chance to buy tickets during the winter and I’m going to call this a belated birthday gift to myself.

Compared to the last time I saw them play, this was a much better setting for their sound and show.  When you see
