Nice Haircut

by J Frazzetta May 20th, 2013 | Artist Review, Featured Artist
When the fall dates were announced for the impending tour to support Because of the Times, I grabbed a pair of tickets to see Kings of Leon make a stop at the Orpheum in Boston.  I had never been to the storied venue before and the fall of 2007 would have me there two more times in the span of three months; feast or famine I guess.  When I think about concerts that I have bought tickets for and then have to live with the anticipation for a few months, this one is very high on my list.

Macklemore @ MIT SpringFest 4/26/2013

by Louise April 30th, 2013 | Concert Review
2013's SpringFest at MIT featured Macklemore and Ryan Lewis as its main act. Unlike those for concerts in many years prior, this year's 3,750 tickets sold out (and in a heartbeat).

Doors opened at 6:30 PM for the 8 PM show, and plenty of faux-fur clad people had lined up early on to claim their standing-room in the front "rows". My friends and I made it inside the venue by around 8:20 PM. The opening act, Ra Ra Riot, was still performing. I thought they put on a good show. Their lead singer, Wes Miles, definitely knows how to use his falsetto. By

Muse, TD Garden, 4/12/13

by J Frazzetta April 18th, 2013 | Concert Review
This show had everything: smoke cannons, laser lights, dubstep and a huge floating pyramid/projection screen.  In 2004 when I first encountered Muse live, their stage set up was three guys, a few fans and some spotlights; this was a show and not some small club.  The boys had a job to do and in no short amount of time were able to key up the crowd and deliver the goods.  Taking songs from their more recent set of albums and piecing them together to form a cohesive set, the night played out with seamless transitions.  That doesn’t mean

It’s Just Two Guys?

by J Frazzetta March 18th, 2013 | Artist Review, Featured Artist
Before we move along too far, Avid Reader, I wanted to share a story with you, and this is a good time to interject.  It was late October 2006 when a buddy living in Worcester contacted me and asked if I wanted to meet him in Boston for a show.  You should know that in my circle of friends, if someone has an extra ticket available I seem to be the first person that gets a phone call about the show.   It turned out the band was the Black Keys; I didn’t know much about them since I'd glossed

The Who, Verizon Wireless Arena, 2/24/13

by J Frazzetta March 1st, 2013 | Concert Review
This is an idea of the crowd I was surrounded by Sunday --  here was a phrase I heard all too often: what a great picture; now how do I post it to Facebook?  Then there was the message flashing on the screens before the show began: Roger is allergic to smoke and would greatly appreciate it if you would stick to brownies.  When you see a band that is a few generations older than you, there is a certain amount of tongue-in-cheek humor to expect, Avid Reader, but then you have the business of rocking.  On their second
