Review: 11/20/11 Flecktones Concert

November 30th, 2011 by Louise | Concert Review
Last Sunday night, the NH Capitol Center for the Arts was filled to brim with an audience anxious for the band to take the stage. The 5-minute delay was probably intentional to build up anticipation. Finally, the main lights dimmed down and in came a sweet bass line. The spotlight revealed the only player it could possibly be, Victor Wooten. One by one the spotlight fell on each member of the group: Wooten, Future Man, Howard Levy, and last but certainly not least, Béla Fleck, leader of the Flecktones.

I was familiar this group’s music, but seeing them live is

Mercies @ Baltimore Free Farm, 2011.11.18

Another weekend, another local show. This time there's a twist – hippies!

The Baltimore Free Farm is a local nonprofit that is dedicated to community-building, recycling, ethical food, and patchouli. They also happen to run rock shows every now and then. On this day, I was there to see Neutron Bomb, Mercies, Ahab's Revenge, and rioLinda. I've written about a few of these guys before, so I can probably spare you a few of the details. Here we go...

I strolled into the place, not quite knowing what to expect. It's located in the hipster capitol

Tripwire @ Padonia Station, Baltimore, MD 2011.10.15

October 18th, 2011 by Jason Lightner | Concert Review
Since I'm still just getting my toes wet in music, I was urged by my guitarist to check out another local band named Tripwire. From what I understand, these guys are the Baltimore band when it comes to doing cover gigs. Signed by Starleigh Entertainment, one of Baltimore's largest booking agencies, Tripwire does their fair share of gigs each month and has the tenure to back it up.

Being the social kind of guy, I naturally strolled into the place with my usual entourage – just kidding, I brought my girl and a buddy of mine decided to

MIXFest 2011

September 21st, 2011 by Louise | Concert Review
MIX 104.1’s annual MIXFest concert returned to Boston this past Saturday September, 17th. Every year, the MIXFest is a great concert, but do you know what made this MIXFest better that all that one before it? It was a free MIXFest Concert! That's right, this year's MIXFest, for the first time ever, was open for all to enjoy. Although VIP passes could be won through the station, nobody had to try to call in to win free tickets, because there was no charge for general admission.

The festivities were held at the DCR Memorial Hatch Shell on the Charles River

4 Footer @ Holiday House in Baltimore, MD 2011.08.20

August 26th, 2011 by Jason Lightner | Concert Review
Who likes a Baltimore rock band called 4 Footer? You do, you savvy son-of-a-gun! You like 'em so much, you're going off to Google RIGHT NOW to search for their Facebook and MySpace pages so you can get the skinny on these guys. That's okay – I'll wait. All done? Brilliant. Let's get it started, then, shall we?

I really enjoy hole-in-the-wall bars like Holiday House. I enjoy the skeezy atmosphere, the dubious clientele and the even more dubious staff that work in these kinds of joints. My favorite thing about these places, however, is that I
