Is It Safer by the Shore?

A while back you might recall that I reviewed a band called Mugshot who have made a name for themselves in New Hampshire as being a great cover band on any given night.  While Mugshot is still plugging away each weekend, their vocalist/guitarist Brien Sweet is also making tunes under the name Safer by the Shore.  True, playing covers can be a lot of fun and gives you some flexibility to stretch out and show off a bit -- but creating your own material has rewards as well.

In 2007 Brien released his first album of acoustic original songs

Company of Thieves, Running from a Gamble, 2011

November 18th, 2011 by J Frazzetta | Album Review
Sometimes you hear a song on the radio for a few weeks and you say to yourself: gee, I kind of like this and I wonder where I can get more of it in short order.  Most times, avid reader, I would truck up to my favorite record store and pick up a copy of said album, but this time I decided to hit the Internet instead.  I wanted to review an album without having the album in front of me; it would just play on my Zune.  The results might shock you and challenge your faith in recorded

On the Value of Recorded Music

October 14th, 2011 by Jason Lightner | Music Opinions
This past week I had the chance opportunity for a brief discussion about the state of music and various other topics. The man I spoke to was Bob Power, award-winning producer, mixer, and audio engineer who has worked on music by artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Run-D.M.C., The Roots, and Erykah Badu. He even had a hand in crafting the Men in Black soundtrack.

We spoke briefly about recording music, about performing live music, and about getting good sound out of the gear you have. It was funny to me that we both prefer the Shure
